Bill Campion, CPA

In addition to his accounting and tax skills, Bill is a trusted advisor to small and medium sized businesses that are interested in growth and cost control. He works closely with businesses that earn $25M or less in revenue while learning their business so he can provide accounting services that guard against the unexpected. Bill originally started at W.A. Campion after buying out his dad, Joe, in 1992. He attended the University of Minnesota, earning a BS degree in accounting and subsequently earned his CPA certification. Bill is an avid skier and if you ask him where he first learned basic accounting skills, he would tell you at his first real job was a bookkeeper in Steamboat Springs, Colorado at a ski shop. In addition to snow in the winter, Bill plays hockey, golf, and likes the sand and the sea, especially for a break before the tax season gets going. Recently Bill has been on a self-improvement mission for both him, his staff, and his company by reading such books as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, EntreLeadership, The Strangest Secret, The Answer and many others.

Tim Campion

Tim does tax returns, and lots of them. Over the years he has developed great relationships with his clients. He is also a whiz at Quickbooks and balancing checkbooks. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, majoring in history, Tim earned his B.A. and went on to take accounting classes as a postgraduate student. After his stint in the U.S. Army, including an all-expense paid vacation to Southeast Asia, he worked at First Guaranty in the CD business. Then, surprisingly at first glance, became a private investigator. The attorney for whom he worked was dealing with a white-collar crime involving bank fraud. Tim’s accounting background helped him spot the details that kept the client from owing the bank hundreds of thousands and coincidentally out of jail. He joined Marek, Inc., the predecessor of W.A. Campion Co. in 1982, working on tax returns with his father, Joe. He participates in a weekly trivia contest and likes to show up at the gym at 5 AM to shoot hoops.

Reed Moormeier

Reed is an experienced executive who spent his early career as a practicing CPA and then as Controller at Data Transmission Network, a public company at the time. He then went on to many other roles at DTN. He founded DTN Weather Services and grew that to be the largest weather service company in the world in just 4 years. Reed left DTN to become CEO of Rollouts a managed services company and then in 2004 started his own small business consulting company focusing on helping businesses generate top line growth. Reed joined W.A. Campion Co. in January of 2019 and brings a wide skill set to the services we offer. In their free time Reed and his wife Jayne are active in their church as Mission & Outreach co-chairs and they love to spend time with their family at their cabin in north central Minnesota."

Chris Strand

Chris has over 30 years of accounting and management experience that he brings to W.A. Campion and our clients. Prior to joining us, he was a Professor of Accounting at Augsburg, Hamline and Metropolitan State University where he taught accounting, finance and economics courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. He enjoys teaching and feels it is not enough for an accountant to simply run the numbers and deliver reports. The true value of an accountant lies in their ability to use those reports to provide business owners with useful knowledge that will help them guide their businesses and make good decisions. Prior to entering academia, Chris served as a Controller for a variety of small to medium sized businesses in a variety of industries. Most recently he served as Vice President of Operations for a 120 person strategic brand identity firm in Minneapolis. In his spare time, Chris enjoys reading, fishing and trying to play golf.

Mary Mitchell

Mary loves the variety of work that comes with working at an accounting firm, including tax season. Says it is her favorite time of the year. Along with a list of duties typical of an office manager, Mary operates like a traffic controller, making sure client questions and requests get to the proper associate and that every visitor feels welcome. She is a people person evidenced by her work at W.A. Campion, and her background, which includes being a dental assistant and an Activity Director in a senior home. Mary is originally from Duluth and attended UMD. Her passions are in the arts, gardening and singing in the Twin Cities Gospel Choir.

Joe Campion

If you ask Joe what his area of expertise is, he will quickly enumerate four areas – accounting, income tax, payroll and conversation. Joe’s passion for working and meeting with clients is a hallmark of the firm. He believes many firms can do accounting and tax work for clients, but to be successful, you must have the personality to make the relationship work. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree in Business Administration, Joe began working with a family real estate investment business doing accounting and tax preparation. Joe started the present day firm as Marek, Inc., which was changed to W.A. Campion when son, Bill joined the firm and received his CPA license. Singing runs in the family, apparently. Joe is a member of the Norwegian and our Lady of Victory choirs. On Tuesday evenings, he and other family members turn to trivial pursuit when they participate as a team in competitions.

Cecelia Fox

Cecelia started with the firm in 1985 where she found her niche in accounting, doing bookkeeping for business clients. Currently, she primarily handles the payroll services for W.A. Campion clients, along with some bookkeeping. She loves the variety that comes from working with a wide range of businesses, but can also handle the incredibly boring details of everyday work. Prior to working for W.A. Campion, Cecelia worked at Textron Financial in the accounts receivable department. She graduated from Grace High School, where she was an accomplished vocalist. She still sings at weddings, funerals and occasionally at Karaoke, when sufficiently motivated."
