Bill Campion, Principal, CPA
In addition to his accounting and tax skills, Bill is a trusted advisor to small and medium sized businesses that are interested in growth and cost control. He works closely with businesses that earn $25M or less in revenue while learning their business so he can provide accounting services that guard against the unexpected. Bill originally started at W.A. Campion after buying out his dad, Joe, in 1992. He attended the University of Minnesota, earning a BS degree in accounting and subsequently earned his CPA certification. Bill is an avid skier and if you ask him where he first learned basic accounting skills, he would tell you at his first real job was a bookkeeper in Steamboat Springs, Colorado at a ski shop. In addition to snow in the winter, Bill plays hockey, golf, and likes the sand and the sea, especially for a break before the tax season gets going. Recently Bill has been on a self-improvement mission for both him, his staff, and his company by reading such books as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, EntreLeadership, The Strangest Secret, The Answer and many others.
Tim Campion, Accountant
Tim does tax returns, and lots of them. Over the years he has developed great relationships with his clients. He is also a whiz at Quickbooks and balancing checkbooks. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, majoring in history, Tim earned his B.A. and went on to take accounting classes as a postgraduate student. After his stint in the U.S. Army, including an all-expense paid vacation to Southeast Asia, he worked at First Guaranty in the CD business. Then, surprisingly at first glance, became a private investigator. The attorney for whom he worked was dealing with a white-collar crime involving bank fraud. Tim’s accounting background helped him spot the details that kept the client from owing the bank hundreds of thousands and coincidentally out of jail. He joined Marek, Inc., the predecessor of W.A. Campion Co. in 1982, working on tax returns with his father, Joe. He participates in a weekly trivia contest and likes to show up at the gym at 5 AM to shoot hoops.
Joe Campion, Founder
If you ask Joe what his area of expertise is, he will quickly enumerate four areas – accounting, income tax, payroll and conversation. Joe’s passion for working and meeting with clients is a hallmark of the firm. He believes many firms can do accounting and tax work for clients, but to be successful, you must have the personality to make the relationship work. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree in Business Administration, Joe began working with a family real estate investment business doing accounting and tax preparation. Joe started the present day firm as Marek, Inc., which was changed to W.A. Campion when son, Bill joined the firm and received his CPA license. Singing runs in the family, apparently. Joe is a member of the Norwegian and our Lady of Victory choirs. On Tuesday evenings, he and other family members turn to trivial pursuit when they participate as a team in competitions.
Mary, Office Manager
Mary loves the variety of work that comes with working at an accounting firm, including tax season. Says it is her favorite time of the year. Along with a list of duties typical of an office manager, Mary operates like a traffic controller, making sure client questions and requests get to the proper associate and that every visitor feels welcome. She is a people person evidenced by her work at W.A. Campion, and her background, which includes being a dental assistant and an Activity Director in a senior home. Mary is originally from Duluth and attended UMD. Her passions are in the arts, gardening and singing in the Twin Cities Gospel Choir.
Cecelia Fox, Accounting & Payroll
Cecelia started with the firm in 1985 where she found her niche in accounting, doing bookkeeping for business clients. Currently, she primarily handles the payroll services for W.A. Campion clients, along with some bookkeeping. She loves the variety that comes from working with a wide range of businesses, but can also handle the incredibly boring details of everyday work. Prior to working for W.A. Campion, Cecelia worked at Textron Financial in the accounts receivable department. She graduated from Grace High School, where she was an accomplished vocalist. She still sings at weddings, funerals and occasionally at Karaoke, when sufficiently motivated.
